Get acquainted with Wakoucha Workshop

Wakoucha (和紅茶) or Japanese Black Tea has existed for over a century but is a specialty tea that is lesser known. Join our upcoming Get Acquainted with Wakoucha workshop to discover the history and unique flavours of black teas produced in Japan.

You will taste Wakoucha from three different tea-producing regions and learn the story behind Japanese black teas. We are excited to be able to include a 2023 Nihoncha Platinum Award winner as part of the tasting lineup. This workshop is great for those wanting to discover Japanese specialty teas in a fun and immersive environment. This 60-minute workshop covers:

  • An introduction to Wakoucha - Japanese black tea
  • How the processing of black tea differs from green tea
  • 3 tea producing regions in Japan and their geographic uniqueness
  • Sip & explore 3 Japanese black teas, including a 2023 Nihoncha Platinum Award Winner

Your Host: Jan is the Global Japanese Tea Association representative for Western Canada, a devoted chado practitioner, and Teakan’s Japanese tea specialist. As a graduate of the Japanese Tea Master Course in Kyoto, Jan looks forward to sharing her tea knowledge, travel stories and special teas from her own collection with you.
